On Broadway

February 8th, 2010

Laura is lead singer of the band Victoria Park. I spotted Laura at Broadway Market - yes you guessed it, the band formed when they were all living around Victoria Park. Anyway I thought Laura looked really vibrant, working the purples, pinks and blues to great effect, in her John Rocha faux fur jacket, grey leggings, hand knitted socks with pink oversized jumper, and Laura manages to add a final touch of class with those wonderful bronze boots.

Laura says: “mix and match your knitted layers with lace to add a bit of class” and her favourite look is Geek Chic.

Apphia And Marlowe

February 7th, 2010

Apphia was out for a stroll with her greyhound Marlowe, when I caught up with her. The weather had turned slightly spring-like, hence the transitional look. Apphia was wearing an ASOS jacket, teamed with a tshirt dress and vintage cardigan, and lets not forget a big thank-you to Marlowe for being such a patient dog.

February 4th, 2010

Charlotte and Bella are wearing some classic pieces of vintage. Charlotte has teamed her Primark red tights and vintage cowboy boots, with a vintage mink coat. Bella works a beautifully textured and shaped 1950’s coat with a snakeskin handbag, 60’s vinyl shoes with cream tights. I also love the cute blue and red berets.

Law And Ordered

February 4th, 2010

Law student Tereza works together her Pull and Bear coat, H&M tights, with boots from the Czech Republic, a dress bought in America, a scarf from India and bag from Tommy Hilfiger.

Tereza says, “I like tights, they change an outfit to a different look… I don’t like jeggins - especially when you can see the butt”.

Hunky Dory

February 4th, 2010

I thought Zaini was rocking a cool 80’s vibe, with her leather skirt from H&M, and freebie hat from a nightclub party. Zaini’s bag is by Fiorelli, boots, tee and scarf from Primark. The tights are from a 99p store, gloves River Island and gloves from a random store in Camden. The cardigan came from a boyfriend.

Zaini loves edgy designers like Vivienne Westwood. Her least favourite look is the current trend for floral patterns. Zaini says “you will never catch me wearing flowery clothes, or leggins - cuz they can look a bit cheap and sluttish”.

February 3rd, 2010

Rachel was visiting London from Ireland and has been accepted for a place at Central St Martins School of Art and Design. Rachel is wearing a faux fur coat from a Vila in Ireland, the dress is Kate Moss for Topshop, and the  Italian boots are by Tiffi.

Blue Touch

February 3rd, 2010

Natalie was scuttling down to the tube station at Oxford Street when she caught my eye with those wonderful blue lace socks. I just about managed to get the name of her smart skirt by H&M and the Topshop jacket.  Natalie looked as if she might be dressed for an interview - If so, good luck and great socks Natalie!

Military Precision

February 1st, 2010

Topman stylist Brett is wearing a Polish quilted military jacket, Burlington socks, vintage shoes and Topman - limited trousers. What a great jacket! I love it, especially with the zip-up neck and oversized breast pocket. It looks so utilitarian and urban, - originally designed to carry an ordinance survey map. I’m also digging the way Brett is working the tans. - Great tones!

Get InTo Shape

February 1st, 2010

I love shape, -  it’s one of the first things I notice when I am walking down the street looking for street pics. As I originally come from a non-fashion background, I tend to work on eye candy, -  something usually excites my retina before I have much of an idea of what I am looking at. Then it all comes into focus and the whole composition somehow coalesces and crystallises through some kind of weird digital, alchemical process, which will remain a mystery…

I noticed this woman dash past me on Regents Street and her shape instantly caught my eye. I was luck enough to see her further up regents street, momentarily pausing to send a text next to red bill board and it all came together nicely.

Rainy Day Blues

January 29th, 2010

Frieda, is a fashion intern at Peter Jenson. Freida is wearing gloves made by her grandmother. “My bag is vintage from a lovely store in Sweden called Chic. Frieda’s waistcoat jumper is also from Chic and given to her by a friend. The coat is from a charity shop in Switzerland, and the scarf is from a flea market in Sweden.

Frieda is also wearing an 80s vintage blouse from China, and given to her by her mother. Frieda’s shorts are about 5 years old and from Topshop, her stocking tights are from Wolford and the boots are vintage.

“My favourite trend is when you just take items you love and just put them all together - you don’t really care how it looks you just love it! There has to be a story behind everything you wear”.

“I don’t like the fashion magazines that tell you what to wear, I think people should be able to feel what they wear.”

Urban Squire

January 29th, 2010

Kiko, is a DJ by night and by day he is the manages of the new Scottish mens wear store on Commercial street, called JS Dundee. Kiko’s outfit is made up from the latest collection of JS Dundee men’s wear.

“My favourite trend is tweed and tartan. I like the scottish gentleman look.
“My least favourite trend is the Camden Town Cyber-Punk look and tight fitting clothes.”

Velvet Lace Secret

January 28th, 2010

Malikah says’ ” I’m not a fan of faux fur, I think it looks and feels tacky and although I’m a vegetarian, I love real fur, as long as it’s vintage… as long as it has been killed before I was born, then I will wear it.”

Malikah’s fashion icon and inspiration is the Marchesa Luisa Casati, - “she is my favourite muse of all time!.. She was like the Paris Hilton of her day, but a lot better!”

Malikah is wearing a fox fur stole, black tail coat, a black velvet leotard, and a black tulle skirt, which malikah has modified. The shoes are Topshop black lace wedges.

I love Malikah’s take on 1920’s chic, - it references the 20’s while looking contemporary, fresh and modern, all at the same time.

Belt-Tightening

January 27th, 2010

Maria was dashing off to Soho House, when I spotted her wearing this Zara coat with such a lovely shape, -  “from a few seasons ago”, -  with tasselled boots bought from a boutique in Ibiza held together with a fabulous over-sized belt by Alice Temperly.

Pick N’ Mix

January 26th, 2010

Romy, is a young fashion designer from Holland, working in London as a fashion intern.

Romy says” I am wearing a coat and sweater from H&M. My dress and bag I made myself. My boots are from Doctor Adams, which is a store in Holland. and the scarf was a present from a friend”.

“I have the feeling that colour is coming back, and I like colour very much, so I am glad to see all sorts of colours mixing up, -  I like this very much. I prefer soft pastels mixed with harsh colours. I like it when an outfit is mixed up and you have a feeling of, hum…. I don’t know if it works or not, but I like it as a whole.”

“My least  favourite trend is when I see girls wearing denim or ballerina skirts with leather jackets. I also don’t like the Goth look because it looks so depressing”.

An Education

January 25th, 2010

Literature student Clio nicely blends a tweed vintage blazer, with a vintage silk blouse and H&M skirt, finished off with a gap scarf and a haberdashery headband. Clio’s favourite trend is… “the 1920’s look, especially some of Topshop’s current collection”. “Least favourite trend is florescent leggings and waist bands trying to hide a multitude of sins, but failing…” I think Clio seamlessly manages to play the vintage with a touch of modern flair while grasping a copy of Shakespeare’s sonnets under her arm. “Play on!”
