London – Laura – Disco Fever

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Musician, producer, singer Laura Bettinson is in a new band called Ultraista, who are being produced by Radiohead’s  Nigel Godrich. Laura is wearing 70s disco shoes from Ebay, a 90s karen Millen party dress. The tote bag was a random find from TK Max.

London – Punky Anime

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I spotted freelance stylist Benny in Stoke Newington, she is originally from Japan and Benny says she bought all her clothes in Tokyo. I was tickled pink by her look, especially the frilly lace leggins – or are they knickers? I love Bennys edgy, quirky, fun expression of individualism.

Post Punk

Nuha works for fashion house ‘Buddhist Punk’. She was on her break when I photographed her in Hoxton. The punk theme is recurring, as she also plays keyboards in a post punk band called The Dead Pixels. Nuha is wearing a fur coat – with ripped lining as a bondage reference – layered teeshirts and red knickerbocker shorts over black tights.

Snow Angel

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Rosa is wearing vintage. I just loved the emerald green deep-fleece coat against the swathes of her chunky natural wool scarf with its flecs of browns and greys. She looked so snug and warm in the snow. Rosa says she is training to become a fashion photographer – I’d better watch my back!

Creature Comforts

Koko is relaunching a magazine called ‘Notes From The Underground’. She was wearing a rabbit fur aviator hat, red Brora cashmere hoody, leather jacket with sheepskin sleeves (a present from India) and blue velvet shirt when I met her in East London. I liked her assertive style, the layers and way the sweater cascades around her neck – echoing the horns of her chunky goat’s-head necklace.

Dark Out Of Light

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Thomas is in a band imaginatively named Scum! He says the music is dark and experimental. He is wearing “70′s dancer shoes”, a Spanish hat with pinstripe trousers and 1950′s trench coat. I thought he had a clean, graceful look, which contrasted well with the grungy background of this East London street on a gloomy afternoon.

The Passion Of Graham

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Graham is a painter from California. He is wearing a tailor-made mustard duffle coat which he recently bought in Devon, South West England and a navy-blue knitted hat. I met him in Shoreditch, London; he was on a pilgrimage to meet friends to witness the inauguration of President Obama.
